Traditional Handmade Tablecloth
Traditional Handmade Tablecloth Termeh is an exquisite fabric that is usually made of wool, silk or woollen fibres, decorated mostly with a paisley pattern. Termeh is also pronounced Terameh and has sometimes been considered an equivalent of Cashmere.
Iranians’ tastes and originality in weaving this delicate texture. The material they use and their creativity in designs are unique in the world. In the past, this exquisite fabric was used in making garments for the noble and the wealthy. It had a wide variety of uses, including fine and aristocratic clothing, curtains and prayer mats.
Producing Termeh requires two different skill sets, the first being product and design and the second being weaving. One weaver might be able to combine the different skill sets. Also, Weaving Termeh is a sensitive, careful, and time-consuming process; a good weaver can produce only 25 to 30 centimetres in a day.
In general, the colours for weaving Termeh, and especially the colours used for its textiles, consist of natural herbal colours. As well as natural materials in colours like dark red, light red, green, orange, and black, the patterns generally include various traditional curved patterns and schemes.
The quality of a Traditional Handmade Tablecloth is determined by the number of colours used and the density of the texture. The more colours used and the higher the density, the higher the quality of Termeh.
“The number of colours used in this fabric is 5, so its density is 5.”
