Pedestal Candy Dish
Candy Dish; Khatamkari is regular and colored polygons on the surface of the work based on creating a geometric or mosaic-like design or a triangle, which in total or creating a regular design creates a stylish, beautiful, and eye-catching work. These geometric shapes are patterned by placing small triangles together.
Triangles are made from various types of wood, metal, and bone. The finer and finer the triangles, the better the seal.
In a Khatam design, to make the smallest geometric unit, at least three triangles are used, and for the largest one, a maximum of four hundred triangles are used.
Khatamkari is one of the most original and beautiful branches of handicrafts in Iran, and its production requires time, precision, tolerance, and patience in addition to the artist’s taste and artistic vision.
According to the opinion of most experts in historical works, cultural heritage, and handicrafts, Shiraz is introduced as the birthplace of this artwork, but due to the interest and attention of the kings of the Safavid dynasty to this art, Isfahan became the center of the production and promotion of inlay work and the cradle of handicrafts.
However, some still believe that Khatam of Shiraz has more elegance and charm than other areas where these works are produced.
Iran is the most important center of Khatam-making in the world today. Although in India, Syria, Iraq, and Palestine there is also the art of inlaying, but it is not as old and elegant as it is done in Iran this art is special to Iran. Iran’s Khatams have been consistently in the first rank in world and international exhibitions.
