If we want to describe in one sentence the mechanism of the art of inlaying, we should say that inlaying is the construction of regular and colourful polygons based on a geometric design that is placed next to each other in the form of regular polygons.
Khatam is a combination of regular polygons that may have different numbers of sides and is made using different raw materials in different colours.
Five, six, seven, eight, or ten-sided polygons are used to make Khatam, and the smallest unit for khatam kari and the interface between other parts is a regular triangle or triangle. Generally, all the parts of Khatam are patterned by placing small triangles together. In fact, this art is another manifestation of mosaic art combined with painting and miniature. Making such parts requires a lot of patience and precision, which has made Khatamkari a productive and valuable art.
