Iranian Handicrafts
Iranian Handicrafts are the fruit of Iranian taste and art over successive centuries. In this passage, Iran is in the first place in terms of the variety of fields and terms of the product supply position, it is in the third place in the world.
Since the country of Iran is geographically located on the mineral belt of the world and has huge reserves of valuable metals. Therefore, from a historical point of view, this issue has caused the expansion of metalworking knowledge and industry from Iran to other regions of the world. In this regard, Iran’s gold and jewelry industry and manufacturing of ornaments and precious metal artifacts are the leaders of the world.
Since thousands of years ago, man has been struggling to combine art and nature around him, and in this regard, various handicrafts made and processed with wood came to the fore. Because wood was one of the most important materials available to the ancients, after transitioning from basic human needs, they started creating art with this symbol of nature. One of the most original of these arts is Khatam Kari, which is one of the delicate arts and important handicrafts of Iran.
Khatamkari is regular and coloured polygons on the surface of the work based on creating a geometric or mosaic-like design or a triangle, which in total or creating a regular design creates a stylish, beautiful, and eye-catching work. These geometric shapes are patterned by placing small triangles together.
Triangles are made from various types of wood, metal, and bone. The finer and finer the triangles, the better the seal.
In a Khatam design, to make the smallest geometric unit, at least three triangles are used, and for the largest one, a maximum of four hundred triangles are used.
Khatamkari is one of the most original and beautiful branches of handicrafts in Iran, and its production requires time, precision, tolerance, and patience in addition to the artist’s taste and artistic vision.
