One of the branches of decorative Iranian handicrafts is called Negargari or Persian Miniature. The latter term means a microcosmic nature. In the Iranian art of miniature, however, nature is not depicted in photos or pictures, but rather is drawn according to the artist’s will and taste.
In the past, the drawing apparatus including the brushes and colors were made and prepared by the artist himself. Persian miniature follows certain rules for painting landscapes and usually does not observe natural proportions. The painted objects do not resemble their real-world image.
Persian Miniatures are mostly quite small, but they show rich, complex scenes that attract any viewer for a long period. Color is simply a decorative tool and details are very important. The magnificence of precious original Persian works has endowed them with universal popularity in most of the prominent centers around the world such as embassies and consulates.
