Persian Handmade Ziloo Carpet
Handmade Floor Covering Ziloo Carpet is one of the oldest types of handmade carpet in Iran and has been woven in Meybod (55KM to Yazd) for many years. Certainly, It was used as the carpet by Iranians not so long ago and was exported from Meybod to many cities of Iran also neighbouring countries.
But, Ziloo was obsoleted with the arrival of machine-woven and synthetic fibre carpets. However, Ziloo has unique characteristics compared to other types of Iranian handmade carpets. Ziloo is made of plants and it has some important characteristics which are so advantageous for the human environment and health. Unlike other Iranian handmade carpets, which are woven of wool, Ziloo is completely plant-based.
Ziloo does not have lint, so it does not produce aerosols. Physicians insist on using it for children, elders and the ones with respiratory disease. As its yarns are made of herbs, and cellulose materials and are completely natural, it doesn’t cause skin allergy and it has been recommended for the ones with skin allergy.
Maybod registered by UNESCO as the city of handicrafts is the city of the carpet. The raw material of Ziloo is cotton. Also, cotton yarn was produced as the raw material with the help of spinning wheels in the past. Then the colors which had a plant origin were added to them to produce wonderful scenery for the viewer. These colours show a lot of resistance against the sun rays and continuous washing.
The text lines and designs of this Persian carpet are called Zolfac. For more information about Ziloo please click.
