It is 100% wool and handmade. Sirjan City produces antique Handmade Kerman Kilims with traditional designs. Weavers are mostly women. Women start this profession from an early age and continue till the end of their lives. Additionally, the designs are mostly based on the features of the surrounding nature. For example, trees, and animals, such as goats, birds, and camels, are included in the designs too.
Kerman Kilims are produced by tightly interweaving the warp and weft strands to produce a flat surface with no pile. The Kilim is mainly woven by nomads and is extremely versatile with geometric patterns and bright colors.
In order to globally register the Kilim of Sirjan, the UNESCO international handicrafts assessors and supervisors travelled to the city in Kerman province, to visit the Handmade Kerman Kilims Rugs Museum and Kilim weaving workshops in the rural areas of Sirjan, including the village of Darestan known as the worldās Kilim village.
So, In 2017, the Iranian city of Sirjan in the region of Kerman was successful in obtaining the designation of World Craft City for Kilim weaving.
