Illuminated Manuscript (Tazhib) A Persian painting, is a manuscript in which the text is enriched with decorations such as initials, borders, and miniature illustrations.

The miniature was popular in the Middle Ages. It was special to the East, particularly Iran, and was mostly created during the 15th Century. Persian Miniature (Negargari) follows certain rules for painting landscapes and usually does not observe natural proportions. The painted objects do not resemble their real-world image.

In the most rigid definition, the term refers to manuscripts decorated with gold or silver but in common usage, the term refers to any decorated or illustrated manuscript. Islamic manuscripts can be referred to as illuminated, illustrated, or painted works.
